Need new winter tires? Here are some signs that don't lie

Have you ever wondered if your winter tires are still good for another year? If so, you may be having trouble assessing the warning signs of their failing condition. Here are some tips.

    1 - The first signs

One of the most obvious signs that a little begins can give us about its loss of effectiveness, it is on the road that it will give it to us. Where you used to take off promptly, your tires are slipping. You also notice longer braking distances. In deep snow, the wheels where the traction is located tend to slip more. In short, anything that seems abnormal to you is probably abnormal. If so, consider having your tires evaluated and possibly replaced.

    2 - Groove depth

Your tire is made up of a tread, which is the surface that makes contact with the road. On winter tires, it is punctuated by large, usually wide grooves. These grooves are there to allow snow to enter and exit the tire. When a tire is said to bite into the snow, it does so because of these grooves. On the sides, its sections are called shoulder blocks. But when these depths decrease, so does their effectiveness. At less than 7/32nds of an inch for a groove, your tire is 50% worn. It is recommended that you start shopping at this point.

    3 - Cracks?

Finally, by examining the tread and sidewalls of your tires, you will be able to evaluate whether it is time to replace them. If cracks appear, it's because your tread has served its purpose. A crack in a tire may be okay, but cracks all over the place are not. Keep your eyes open; your safety depends on it.
