The Engines Offered on the Volvo S60

The 2022 Volvo S60 offers a choice of hybrid powertrains that provide both power and efficiency, and a fully electric range in the case of the Plug-in hybrid variant.

    The B5

The base engine offered in the 2022 Volvo S60 is called the B5. This name signifies that it now features a mild hybrid system which pairs the regular 2.0L four-cylinder engine with a 48-volt electric motors and a small battery. This electrification strategy helps the gasoline engine be more efficient by boosting its torque when at low speeds and allowing for a more seamless operation of the start-stop function which turns of the gasoline engine at prolonged stops. The standard version offered in the Momentum trim level powers the front wheels exclusively. An all-wheel drive system is available on this model and standard on every other in the S60 lineup. The combined power figure for the B5 engine is 247 horsepower in front-wheel drive guise and 250 horsepower when it is connected to all four corners.

    The T8 Recharge

The T8 Recharge powertrain is the most advanced propulsion system installed in a Volvo vehicle. The 2022 Volvo S60 receives it when ordered in its S60 Recharge version. This system employs a much larger battery than the B5, which allows it to provide an entirely electric range of up to 35 kilometers. The gasoline engine is the same 2.0L four-cylinder unit used in the B5 version, but its turbocharger is supplemented by a supercharger and the electric motors. This allows for very strong accelerations that allow the S60 Recharge to reach 100 km/h from a stop in only 4.3 seconds. The R-Design model delivers 405 horsepower, while the Polestar Engineered pushes the output to 420 horsepower. In addition to providing impressive performances, this powertrain is very fuel efficient and the electric range means many short commutes can be completed without using fuel at all.
